Book Review: All Necessary Force (Pike Logan #02) by Brad Taylor

Logan, the slightly grumpy hero of One Rough Man, returns with his somewhat-reluctant sidekick Jennifer Cahill, and the two lead operatives from The Taskforce - a group of covert operatives working outside of normal avenues, reporting directly to the President and a specially-convened council - chasing in the wake of an Islamic terrorist group seeking to strike at the very heart of America: it's power supply.

You believe every single thing Taylor writes regarding tactics and the like, because he's actually been there and done that. In a previous life, before he was a best-selling author, Taylor was a member of the US Army's Delta Force. So, yeah, he really knows what he's talking about, whereas some other writers in the same thriller genre can only research or guess.

There's plenty of global-crisscrossing for Pike, Jennifer and the team, whilst, back in Washington D.C., the ramifications of The Taskforce having to potentially work on American soil is debated amongst a select group including President Payton Warren and Kurt Hale, the military man in charge of The Taskforce. Certain politicians believe that the unit has gone too far, and risk discovery after a series of brazen acts that Pike has instigated, without official permission. It begs the Washington D.C. set to wonder whether they have, in the form of Pike, created a weapon they can no longer adequately control. In a few key moments, Jennifer wonders the same thing, too. It's an interesting point that Taylor brings up: how far is too far.

Ultimately, events switch to the home front, and the final few chapters are especially breakneck. Not that Taylor writes a slow story before that, it's just that everything kicks up a new gear in the last quarter of the book. It's action packed stuff, and Taylor proves that he'd the main man when it comes to military thrillers.

Can't wait for more Pike Logan!
