2015 24 Hours of Le Mans Australian TV Guide

The 2015 24 Hours of Le Mans begins tonight at 11:00pm AEST and with Australian Mark Webber's Porsche likely - hopefully! - to figure in the frenetic LMP1 battle at the front of the 56-car field (and plenty of New Zealand representation, in all four classes) there's more interest in the French endurance classic in this neck of the woods than ever before.

Thankfully, between FOX Sports and Eurosport, Australians can follow 20 of the 24 total hours live on television, and for the first time in race history, camera positions around the entirety of the legendary Circuit de la Sarthe will be manned all through the French night, putting an end to external shots only of the permanent sections of the track from the Porsche Curves to the Tertre Rouge corner and only in-car shots after that. About time, too!

The only time when there won't be live coverage from Le Mans is between 3:00am and 7:00am on Sunday morning AEST.

Eurosport's coverage will feature Martin Haven, Jeremy Shaw and the usual crew.

FOX has taken the Radio Le Mans call (John Hindaugh, Graham Goodwin and others) of the two World Endurance Championship races this year, but there's also a chance they'll take FOX Sports coverage from North America, which will be headed up by Bob Varsha and Calvin Fish.

NASCAR 2015: Week Twelve (Charlotte) Australian Foxtel TV Guide

The final installment on the biggest weekend of global motorsport - following on from 99th Indianapolis 500 and the Monaco Formula One Grand Prix before that - comes from the 1.5-mile Charlotte Motor Speedway, where the cars and stars of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series set off on a 600-mile journey, the longest and toughest of the season. 

It's one of the sport's biggest races, and will be run before something close to a capacity crowd in a city that's the centre of the sport these days, home to race teams and officials. It's a "home game" for crews and drivers, and the late-afternoon start transitioning into night time the day before the Memorial Day holiday is always a highlight. It's a big weekend at Charlotte, with the young guns of the Xfinity Series in their own 300-mile race the day before.

2015 Indianapolis 500 Australian Foxtel TV Guide

For the ninety-ninth time, thirty three drivers will take the green flag on the front straight of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and set off on a 500-mile test of skill and endurance for the right to have their likeness etched on the world-famous Borg Warner Trophy. 

Australia's Will Power, winner of the Grand Prix of Indianapolis road course race two weeks ago, has qualified in second, behind Target Chip Ganassi Racing's Scott Dixon, the Queensland-born New Zealander. Power's fellow Australians, Ryan Briscoe (Schmidt-Peterson Motorsports) and James Davison (Dale Coyne Racing) start from the back row. There's never been an Australian in victory lane at the Indianapolis 500, and it's hard to remember a time when an Aussie has had a better shot at a win than Power does this year. Fingers crossed!

All the action is live on FOX Motorsport, in spectacular high definition, with the pre-race show immediately following post-race coverage from the Monaco Grand Prix. It's a pretty awesome double-header of racing, which turns into a triple header (and 1200+ miles of racing) if you include NASCAR's prestigious Coke 600 for the Sprint Cup Series cars. Best racing weekend of the year? Just about!

NASCAR 2015: Week Twelve (All Star Weekend) Australian Foxtel TV Guide

For mine, NASCAR's All-Star event is the most meaningful of it's kind in American sports - on par with the Major League Baseball game, which decides World Series home field advantage for the winning conference - because there's no slowing down of the game, like you see in football and hockey. The million dollars on offer takes care of that!

Drivers are all going hell-for-leather in the unique and, it seems, ever-changing format, at Charlotte Motor Speedway, which generally produces good racing. The non-championship event means that drivers generally take chances in this event to win the big pay day than they otherwise might over the long stretch of the Sprint Cup Series season, where there are wins and points-paying finishes to worry about. Not this weekend!

The Camping World Truck Series joins the Sprint Cup Series on the bill in Charlotte whilst the Xfinity Series heads out into the heartland, to the racy Iowa Speedway for a race that'll be live on Monday morning in Australia. So, it's a triple header weekend, and that's never a bad thing!

NASCAR 2015: Week Eleven (Kansas) Australian Foxtel TV Guide

 

The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series begins a three-week run of night races, beginning with Kansas this weekend, and stretching across two weekends at Charlotte Motor Speedway for the Sprint All Star Race and, the marathon Coca Cola 600 on Memorial Day.

This weekend, it's the 1.5-mile Kansas Speedway for a 400-mile race sponsored by none other than SpongeBob Square Pants - yep, you read that correctly! The good news is that Saturday morning's Camping World Truck Series race is also live on FOX Sports.

NASCAR 2015: Week Eight (Bristol) Australian Foxtel TV Guide

This is a great stretch of races, from Martinsville to Texas under lights and on to Bristol, before Richmond next weekend and Talladega the one after. Bristol is always awesome -- the day race doesn't quite have the same atmosphere as the summer event under lights, but it's fun. There's nowhere like Bristol, and this year's race is a tribute to NASCAR broadcaster Steve Byrnes, who is in the fight of his life against cancer. It will be a very emotional weekend, I'm sure.

One thing to note: due to the Formula One GP of Bahrain, there will be no pre-race show broadcast this weekend. Coverage begins thirteen minutes before the green flag drops.

NASCAR 2015: Week Seven (Texas) Australian Foxtel TV Guide

After a break for the Easter weekend, the NASCAR Sprint Cup & Xfinity Series travelling circus rolls on. Two weeks ago, we were in Martinsville on the paperclip short track that is one of the tightest and slowest tracks on the schedule and now, fourteen days later, we're at Texas Motor Speedway, a 1.5-mile speedway in Fort Worth that is one of the fastest tracks the series visits.

It's also the first night race weekend of the year, which means Sunday morning Sprint Cup Series racing for Australian fans, with the Xfinity race, also under lights, early on Saturday morning. Best of all, both races are live on FOX Sports.

After a few weeks off, the Camping World Truck Series returns to action at the classic 0.5-mile, paperclip-shaped Martinsville Speedway in Virginia. It's one of NASCAR's oldest and most historic tracks. We'll see close-quarter short-track racing (which usually provides it's fair share of angst amongst the drivers) and the weekend winners receive a grandfather clock, one of the best trophies in NASCAR. Good news: both races are live on FOX Sports this weekend.

NASCAR 2015: Week Five (Fontana) Australian Foxtel TV Guide

The final weekend of NASCAR's annual western pilgrimage takes us to Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, and Foxtel will be showing both the Xfinity and Sprint Cup Series events live, which is a very pleasant surprise.

Seeing as how we're technically in the Los Angeles suburbs, you can bet that FOX will play heavily on the fact that the Sprint Cup Series is in the same neck of the woods as Hollywood. Well, kinda. Fontana is a long way from Hollywood, but watch the references fly thick and fast nonetheless on the last weekend out west.

2015 NASCAR Daytona 500 & Speedweeks Australian Broadcast Guide

 

Phew! For a while there, it didn’t look like we’d be getting any NASCAR coverage in Australia. A combination of no Australian entrant in the Sprint Cup Series (see ya, Marcos Ambrose) and Foxtel’s giant – and expensive – acquisition of both V8 Supercar and Formula One for 2015 made the acquisition of NASCAR rights a real last-minute thing, and I actually had a bad feeling that the races wouldn’t be on Foxtel this year. Judging by posts on Facebook and elsewhere on social media, I wasn't alone in that fear.

Thankfully, Foxtel came through for us. First came the announcement of Speedweeks and Daytona 500 broadcasts, and then a confirmation that the entire season of Sprint Cup Series, Xfinity Series (formerly Nationwide Series) and Camping World Truck Series action would be broadcast on Foxtel. Not always live, mind you, but delayed coverage is better than none at all. And ‘not at all’ looked a serious possibility as recently as a few days ago.

So, here we go, all the broadcast details as NASCAR’s best go for glory at the sport’s biggest event:

2015 CFP National Championship - Ohio State vs. Oregon: Australian Foxtel / ESPN TV Guide

Today is the inaugural CFP National Championship Game at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, pitting the Oregon Ducks against the Ohio State Buckeyes, not only for the right to be known as college football's National Champion, but also for a slice of history, for the chance to be forever recorded in the annals of history as the first National Champion in the College Football Playoff era.

ESPN Australia/New Zealand is super-serving coverage for fans here, ahead of (and after) the game itself, which kicks off shortly after 12.30pm AEDT.

Hot off the press, here are all the details of ESPN's programming for the 2015 College Football National Championship Game that takes place Tuesday afternoon, January 13, 2015. 

IMPORTANT: Oregon vs. Ohio State will be broadcast on both ESPN and ESPN2 concurrently, and the ESPN2 feed is the 'Film Room'; coverage, featuring ESPN analysts Chris Spielman and Tom Luginbill along with coaches Dan Mullen, Pat Narduzzi and Mike Reilly breaking down every play, all game. 2015 College Football National Championship Game - Australian Foxtel / ESPN TV Guide

Hot off the press, here are all the details of ESPN's programming for the 2015 College Football National Championship Game that takes place Tuesday afternoon, January 13, 2015.

Something interesting to note: guides currently suggest the game will be broadcast on both ESPN and ESPN2 concurrently, so there's a good chance that Australians will get to see at least a small slice of the MegaCast that's being planned in America, where fans at home can access a number of different feeds of the game, some with radio calls, others with coaches breaking down X's and O's, and more. It was premiered to rave reviews during last year's BCS National Championship Game, and ESPN have recently announced they're bringing it back again. More details as they come to hand...

College Football 2015: January Bowl Games Australian Foxtel / ESPN TV Guide

We're down to the business end of the season, and over two days - January 1 and January 2 in Australia - we'll see the biggest teams in the country matching up against one another. Chief amongst these mouth-watering match-ups are the two National Semifinal games (Rose Bowl and Sugar Bowl) that will determine the first ever College Football Playoff Championship Game that'll be played on January 13.

At this stage, it seems like ESPN is showing as much football as they can. The only exception seems to be the Citrus Bowl, which is on at the same time as both the Outback and Cotton Bowl games, and (forgive me, Missouri and Minnesota fans) I think we're getting the two better match-ups beamed in.

College Football 2014: Championship Weekend Australian Foxtel / ESPN TV Guide

Championship Weekend is my second favourite of the season, trailing only the Thanksgiving weekend rivalries that we enjoyed last week. It's the culmination of more than three months of football, with Bowl games and National Playoff slots on the line...even if this is the weekend that leads into a few weekends of no football before the lengthy post-season begins in the days leading up to Christmas.

Sadly, this year, ESPN has a very small number of games to show, and they don't include Oregon vs. Arizona, Wisconsin vs. Ohio State or Missouri vs. Alabama. If you are wondering exactly why ESPN Australia won't be showing the Pac-12, Big Ten and SEC title games this weekend, check out my explanation published earlier this week. Hopefully it helps to make sense of the rights ownership situation.

 

At least we'll get some MACtion on Saturday morning, and a look at Florida State against a Georgia Tech team that no one should discount in the ACC Championship Game a day later, following Jameis Winston' misconduct hearing this week. GameDay is broadcasting from Waco, Texas for the de-facto Big XII championship game between K-State and Baylor. Sadly, we won't actually get to see the game here...

THis Thanksgiving weekend is undoubtedly the best of the college football season, because so many of the game's absolutely classic rivalries are renewed. What other weekend gives you such classics as Ohio State vs Michigan, USC vs. Notre Dame, Alabama vs. Auburn and Florida vs. Florida State? It seems to not matter where teams are in terms of win-loss on the season, because these rivalry games always seem to be close, competitive and epic. 

Trust me: I was at Michigan vs. Ohio State in the Big House last year, and as bad as Michigan had been all year, they put on one heck of a show and very nearly caused a colossal upset of the Buckeyes. That's why you tune into these rivalry games - even if they look like being blow outs, they frequently aren't, and there's often great controversy. It's a great time to be a college football fan.

ESPN have come to the party after an indifferent year, providing a slate of the weekend's best games, including the Iron Bowl on Sunday, to be called by the legendary Brent Musburger! GameDay originates from Tuscaloosa for this unpredictable, classic showdown.

College Football 2014: Week Thirteen Australian Foxtel / ESPN TV Guide

ESPN returns a full slate of Sunday games (plus one each on Friday and Saturday) as we round the final turn and head to the home stretch of the season, ahead of a giant Thanksgiving weekend coming up in seven days. We'll get to see College GameDay from the Harvard campus - a place perhaps more famous for producing presents than football stars - for the first time, with the program setting the stage as only they can for the famous Ivy League battle between undefeated Harvard and one-loss Yale.

For me, the weekend is great if USC beat UCLA and a total write-off if the Bruins get us again. Enjoy!
